A Read Only switch for Hard Drives
WriteLock is the ability to "lock down" data to hard disk drives. In other words, WriteLock enables a Read-only feature similar to CD-ROMS and DVDs without the small media size or speed limitations. Once data is on the drive in the desired way, enable WriteLock to prevent further changes. Perfect for situations where data must be distributed to another party and you want to ensure the data is preserved.

Small Enclosure, Big Protection
This ToughTech includes hardware - AES Encrytion Key based, government-strength encryption. Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), the FIPS approved encryption standard, now fits in your pocket and is incredibly easy to use. With ToughTech Secure you'll get guaranteed full-disk hardware based encryption, with no loss of speed.
Strong 128bit and 256bit available
Our 128bit hardware encryption is FIPS-197 listed (certification number 60) and our 256bit hardware encryption is FIPS 140-2 (Federal Information Processing Standards) (certification number 1471).
This means that NIST (the National Institute of Standards and Technology) has given it a thumbs up, verifying as strong enough for government use.
Due to federal guidelines for selling encrypted products, we're restricting direct sales to our approved distribution channel partners. Contact us for information on where you can buy our 128 or 256-bit encrypted products.

ToughTech Secure mini-Q Features
ToughTech Secure mini-Q with WriteLock boasts improved passive cooling, a Kensington Lock, host connection LEDs, and a small form factor. It includes very strong AES 128bit or 256bit Hardware-Based encryption. It allows you to lock down data with WriteLock, creating a Read Only external hard drive.
Not much bigger than a pack of playing cards, ToughTech Secure mini-Q will easily travel with you, fitting into pockets and briefcases.
Accepts SATA drives
SATA drives are standard today. They're fast, and they work natively with the fast Oxford 934 chipset found in ToughTech Secure mini-Q. This chipset ensures you the fastest FireWire, USB, and eSATA speeds available.
Connects to almost any Computer
With quadruple connectivity, you'll be able to hook it to practically any computer out there. ToughTech Secure mini-Q provides dual FireWire 800 ports (backwards compatible to FireWire 400) and a combo eSATA/USB2 port. As a result, you can connect it to any computer running any recent operating system.
To make sure you can connect in any situation, all appropriate cables and adapters are included. See the 'includes' section above.
ToughTech Secure mini-Q is bootable in FireWire/USB/eSATA mode on any computer that supports this feature. You can even boot from an encrypted volume.
And it's fast! Configure ToughTech mini with a 7200 RPM drive and there is no performance difference between ToughTech mini and our other 7200 RPM drive enclosures.
ToughMount® Anti-Shock Protection
ToughMount strips are mounted between the drive and the enclosure to protect the drive from shock and reduce enclosure noise.
Plug and play
ToughTech Secure mini-Q works out of the box with no new drivers needed with any modern operating system including Mac OS X and Windows XP, Vista, 7 as well as any distribution of Linux that supports FireWire, USB, or eSATA. If using FireWire, additional FireWire devices can be daisy-chained through ToughTech Secure mini-Q.
AC Adapter or USB/FireWire powered
Most FireWire ports have adequate power to operate ToughTech Secure mini-Q, so most users prefer to use ToughTech Secure mini-Q without an AC adapter for maximum portability. If your port does not supply enough power, you have more than one power option:
- AC Adapter
- FireWire bus power
- Dual USB host connection (one for USB, one for extra power)
You will need extra power if the port you use does not provide enough power for ToughTech Secure mini-Q. This includes all 4 pin FireWire hosts (such as Sony iLink which provides no power at all), eSATA ports (which provide no power) and many USB ports.
